Vulgar New Money

No white after Labor Day? Have you ever thought to yourself how ridiculous this fashion rule is? I was thinking about this because I went out to a party on a September weekend and a friend of ours told me he thought I would show up in white. I never got to ask him why, but I was so curious I told my husband about it. He couldn’t think of anything but the fact it was after Labor Day. I didn’t even think of that! I don’t understand why that would make him think this way though…. So I turned to Mr. Google, the know-it-all.

I found a website that has so much fun information and this subject was one of their blogs. According to https://www.mentalfloss.com/, it was one of many, many ways for rich “old money” wives to know who the “vulgar new money” wives were. In the late 1800s to the early 1900s, some snobby rich wife, who felt she was better than the wives who worked hard with their husbands to create an income, decided to make it easy to pick out the “vulgar new money”. She kept her old money gals in the loop of not wearing white after labor day. “Oh my, you have white on today and it is after Labor Day. I’m too important to be bothered by vulgar new money, so I am going to go find “my friends” and laugh about you in your white clothes.” …..I LOVE historical drama! So much fun! With that said, I guess I am vulgar new money and so my friend was just pointing that out in his own way! Hahaha, I am “Vulgar New Money” and I LOVE it! That shall be my status from here on out. Here I come, snobby “old money” bitches! I’m just kidding, I am pretty sure my friend was just as clueless as I was.

So now here we are in October!

How time flies! I have been going to the gym for the last month and it is amazing to see the amount of people who look so miserable. I can’t help but imagine the feelings they are going through coming to the gym.

In our younger days, those who went to the gym did it to look good, unless they had a fitness goal to achieve. Sometime after 35 or 40, we get told we need to strengthen our bodies because we have beat it to hell and back. We were invincible not too long ago, it seems, but we are slowly getting slapped in the face by reality that we are no longer as invincible as we once thought.

As creatures of habit, change is not easy. However, because our environment with age is constantly changing, we must change our habits every so often. The problem is we don’t realize what we need to change until it is too late and suddenly we have to change EVERYTHING we do. The way we eat, the way we drink, the way we move, the way we sit… and the list goes on.

This Halloween should be so EASY!!! All we have to do is dress up like a zombie! We already walk like one! We are for sure scaring kids away this year! All jokes aside, if you struggle with change, the first thing we forget about is how we think about change.

If we dread change and dread going to the gym or dread changing our diet, you have to BELIEVE IN YOUrself first. Dreading a new change means you wish to get back to the way things were. We cannot walk backwards into time, before the injury or before you started using too much sugar and got addicted. The only way is forward, so if you dread it, you have already lost.

Believe in your BEST YOU. Unzombify yourself into someone who feels amazing inside. Repeat after me: I am fit, healthy, and strong. I feel amazing and I am blissful.

If these words feel wrong coming out of your mouth; that is doubt you are feeling. Repeat this everyday, write this on your bathroom mirror so you can read it over and over again in your head while you brush your teeth (did you know 2 minutes of brushing is a must? Look it up!). It sounds stupid, but after two, three weeks of reading this on your mirror, you will be subconsciously reading it in your head throughout the day. That is when you will start believing in your BEST YOU.

See how you feel about the change after you do this for a bit. Take notice of how uplifting you feel, or how positive you feel about what you are doing for yourself.

If you have achieved such great results in how you feel, don’t forget to reward yourself! You can start with a GIFT CARD to CHI Massage Therapy at 15% OFF. It can be used for products and services; whatever your heart desires!

I also have a treat for you! A friend gathered information from many different small businesses  into one convenient booklet. She was able to gather over $1700 worth of savings in this booklet called the “Self-Care Passbook”. For only $50 you save over $1700. A perfect way to try out new things, go to new places and explore what Albuquerque has to offer. The best part is you will be supporting small businesses while you are exploring! It is a perfect gift to give to anyone and for yourself.

I have these available for you at my office if you would like to pick one up when you come by for a treatment. Or you can go directly to their website to order one:
